Alcohol abuse Essay Example for Free

soaker beverage abuse Essay dry drink is absorbed from all part of the gastroenteric tract largely by simple diffusion into the pipeline. However the clear intestine is by far the most efficient region of the gastrointestinal tract for inebriant absorption be lawsuit of its very large surface area. In a moderation individual, it is generally agreed that 10% to 20% of a panelling of alcoholic beverageic beverageic drink is absorbed from the stomach (the volume of alcohol affects the absorption) and 75% to 80% is absorbed from the small intestine. Because of this peak blood alcohol engrossments are achieved in fasting nation at bottom 0. 5 to 2.0 hours, (average 0. 75 1. 35 hours depending upon dose and time of last meal) while non-fasting heap exhibit peak alcohol concentrations within 1. 0, and in extreme cases up to as much as 4. 0 hours (average 1. 06 2. 12 hours). Because it is distributed so quickly and thoroughly the alcohol faeces affect the of import ne rvous system even in small concentrations. In moo concentrations, alcohol reduces inhibitions. As blood alcohol concentration increases, a persons response to stimuli decreases markedly, mformer(a) tongue becomes slurred, and he or she becomes unsteady and has trouble walking. With very high concentrations greater than 0. 35 grams/ carbon milliliters of blood (equivalent to 0. 35 grams/210 liters of breath ) a person can become comatose and die. The American Medical Association has defined the blood alcohol concentration level of worsening for all multitude to be 0. 04 grams/100 milliliters of blood (equivalent to . 04 grams/210 liters of breath). The following is a generally accepted guide to the effects of alcohol.Distribution Alcohol has a high affinity for water and is thitherfore show in corpse tissues and fluids inasmuch as they contain water. Absorbed alcohol is rapidly carried by dint ofout the body in the blood and once absorption of alcohol is nail down an equilib rium occurs such that blood at all points in the system contains approximately the same concentration of alcohol. Elimination The liver is responsible for the excretion through metabolism of 95% of ingested alcohol from the body. The remainder of the alcohol is eliminated through excretion of alcohol in breath, urine, sweat, feces, milk and saliva. The body uses several different metabolic pathways in its oxidation of alcohol to acetaldehyde to acetic acid to carbon dioxide and water. Healthy people metabolize alcohol at a fair consistent direct. As a rule of thumb, a person will eliminate one average drink or . 5 oz (15 ml) of alcohol per hour. Several factors influence this pasture. The rate of elimination tends to be higher(prenominal) when the blood alcohol concentration in the body is very high. Also chronic alcoholics may (depending on liver health) metabolize alcohol at a significantly higher rate than the average. Finally, the bodys ability to metabolize alcohol quickly tend to diminish with age. personify Weight and Body Type In general, the less you weigh the to a greater extent you will be alter by a given issue forth of alcohol. As detailed above, alcohol has a high affinity for water. Basically ones blood alcohol concentration is a function of the total amount of alcohol in ones system split by total body water. So for two individuals with similar body compositions and different weights, the larger individual will achieve lower alcohol concentrations than the small one if ingesting the same amount of alcohol. However, for people of the same weight, a well muscled individual will be less affected than someone with a higher percentage of plunk since fatty tissue does not contain very much water and will not absorb very much alcohol. set Of Consumption Blood alcohol concentration depends on the amount of alcohol consumed and the rate at which the users body metabolizes alcohol. Because the body metabolizes alcohol at a fairly constant rate (somewhat to a greater extent quickly at higher and lower alcohol concentrations), ingesting alcohol at a rate higher than the rate of elimination results in a cumulative effect and an increasing blood alcohol concentration.Alcohol Content Its not how m all drinks that you have, but how much alcohol that you consume. The concentration of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is most rapidly absorbed when the concentration of the drink is between 10% and 30%. Below 10% the concentration gradient in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added volumes of liquid involved slow gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than 30% tend to taunt the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter, causing change magnitude secretion of mucous and delayed gastric emptying. Food Food taken alon g with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the point of greatest intoxication). There are two major(ip) factors involved in this phenomenon. First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can slow down the absorption of alcohol into ones system. The pyloric valve at the bottom of the stomach will close in order to hold food in the stomach for digestion and thus keep the alcohol from reaching the small intestine. While alcohol will be absorbed from the stomach it is a slower and less efficient transition. Second and equally important is the fact that alcohol elimination rates are inversely proportional to alcohol concentration in the blood. Therefore the suppressed levels of alcohol due to food ingestion cause the body to eliminate the alcohol that is absorbed at a faster rate. The type of food ingested (carbohydrate, fat, protein) has not been shown to have a measurable influence on this affect but th e larger the meal and closer in time between eating and deglutition, the greater the diminution of peak alcohol concentration. Studies have shown reductions in peak alcohol concentration (as opposed to those of a fasting individual under otherwise similar circumstances) of 9% to 23%. Medication If you are victorious any medication, it could increase the effects of alcohol. You should always consult your physician or the medical information that accompanies the medication when crapulence alcohol in conjunction with any medication. Fatigue Fatigue causes humansy of the same symptoms that are ca apply by alcohol intoxication. These and other symptoms will be amplified if alcohol intoxication is concurrent with fatigue. allowance account Tolerance is the diminution of the effectiveness of a drug after a period of prolonged or heavy use of that drug or a colligate drug (cross-tolerance).There are at least two types of tolerance at work with alcohol. The first is metabolic tolerance in which the alcohol is metabolized at a higher rate (up to two times as quickly) in chronic users. Because of the higher metabolic rate for alcohol lower peak blood alcohol concentrations are achieved by chronic alcohol users than the average drinker when the same amount of alcohol is ingested. The second is functional tolerance in which there is an actual change in the organ or systems sensitivity to the drug.Studies have shown that chronic alcohol users can have twice the tolerance for alcohol as an average person. It is important to note however that even in light of these tolerance factors, it has been shown conclusively that even in heavy alcohol users functional impairment is clearly measurable at the blood alcohol concentration levels that are currently used for traffic law enforcement and safety sensitive job performance. sexuality Differences As outlined above in the section on Body Weight and Body Type different body types coincide with different body water percentages.I n general, but by no means in all cases, women tend to have a higher percentage of body fat and thus a lower percentage of body water. Therefore, in general, if a man and a woman of the same weight ingest the same amount of alcohol the woman will tend to achieve a higher alcohol concentration. This, of course, would not be true if the woman was very fit and the man was somewhat obese, but on average, this is the case. Furthermore, total body water tends to decrease with age, so an older person will also be more affected by the same amount of alcohol.According to the table below the differences in alcohol concentration due to average body composition differences based on gender would be between 16% and 10% depending on age. ________________________________________ Average Total Body Water as a function of Sex and mount AgeMaleFemale 18 to 4061%52% over 6051%46% ________________________________________ Another gender based difference is in the elimination of alcohol. Although not ex plained, studies appear to show that women eliminate alcohol from their bodies at a rate 10% greater than that of men.Alcoholism and alcohol abuse Alcoholism (alcohol dependence) and alcohol abuse are two different forms of trouble drinking. Alcoholism is when you have signs of physical addiction to alcohol and continues to drink, despite problems with physical health, mental health, and social, family, or job responsibilities. Alcohol may control your life and relationships. Alcohol abuse is when your drinking leads to problems, but not physical addiction. Causes, incidence, and risk factors There is no known cause of alcohol abuse or alcoholism.Research suggests that definite genes may increase the risk of alcoholism, but which genes and how they work are not known. How much you drink can influence your chances of becoming dependent. Those at risk for developing alcoholism include Men who have 15 or more drinks a calendar week Women who have 12 or more drinks a week Anyone who has five or more drinks per occasion at least once a week One drink is defined as a 12-ounce bottleful of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, or a 1 1/2-ounce shot of liquor. You have an increased risk for alcohol abuse and dependence if you have a parent with alcoholism. You may also be more likely to abuse alcohol or become dependent if you Are a young heavy(a) under peer pressure Have depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, or schizophrenia Have easy access to alcohol Have low self-conceit Have problems with relationships Live a stressful lifestyle Live in a culture alcohol use is more common and accepted Alcohol abuse is rising. Around 1 out of 6 people in the world have a drinking problem. Symptoms People who have alcoholism or alcohol abuse a good deal Continue to drink, even when health, work, or family are being harmed Drink alone.Become violent when drinking Become hostile when asked well-nigh drinking Are not able to control drinking being unable to stop or reduce alcohol intake Make excuses to drink Miss work or school, or have a decrease in performance because of drinking Stop taking part in activities because of alcohol Need to use alcohol on most days to get through the day Neglect to eat or eat poorly Do not care about or ignore how they dress or whether they are clean Try to hide alcohol use Shake in the morning or after periods when they have not a drinkSymptoms of alcohol dependence include Memory lapses after heavy drinking Needing more and more alcohol to feel drunk Alcohol withdrawal symptoms when you havent had a drink for a while Alcohol-related illnesses such as alcoholic liver infirmity Signs and tests The health care supplier will perform a physical exam and ask questions about your medical and family history, including use of alcohol. The following questions are used by the subject area Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to screen for alcohol abuse or dependence Do you ever charter when you have been drinking?Do yo u have to drink more than before to get drunk or feel the desired effect? Have you snarl that you should cut down on your drinking? Have you ever had any blackouts after drinking? Have you ever missed work or disjointed a job because of drinking? Is someone in your family worried about your drinking? Tests that may be done include Blood alcohol level (this can tell whether someone has recently been drinking alcohol, but it does not necessarily confirm alcoholism) Complete blood count (CBC) Liver function tests. magnesium blood test Medical Illness Associated With Chronic Alcohol Abuse DisorderIllness MetabolicAlcoholic ketoacidosis, alcoholic hypoglycemia, water and salt disorders NeurologicChronic problems with thinking such as Wernickes encephalopathy and Korsakoffs psychosis, alcoholic cerebellar degeneration, and central pontine myelinolysis leading to problems walking and other motor activities, acute and chronic dementia, alcoholic peripheral neuropathy MuscularAcute and chr onic alcoholic muscle weakness.GastrointestinalFatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, alcoholic cirrhosis, alcoholic pancreatitis, poor pancreatic function, gastroesophageal reflux, esophageal carcinoma, erosive gastritis, chronic diarrhea, malabsorption, esophageal varices leading to bleeding into the GI tract Metabolic-endocrineHigh cholesterol, high levels of uric acid, low testosterone levels, impotence, testicular atrophy, gynecomastia, irregular menstrual periods, reversible Cushings syndrome BloodAnemia due to poor production of blood cells or slow intestinal bleeding, poor white cell production, wipeout of platelets, blood too thin to clot properly.CardiacDecreased cardiac function, arrhythmias, dilated cardiomyopathy, high blood pressure PulmonaryIncreased incidence of pneumonia, increased incidence of tuberculosis OtherIncreased incidence of severe intestinal infections, fetal alcohol syndrome, vitamin deficiency syndromes, trauma, sexual dysfunction, insomnia Social Problems Associated With Alcohol Abuse Accidental death and injury50% of fatal car crashes 25-fold increased risk of falls or drowning 50% of fire-related burns or deaths 20% to 30% of trauma seen in emergency rooms.CrimeFrequently involved in violent crime SuicideInvolved in up to 35% of suicides Economic cost$148 billion annually (estimated) 15% for health care and treatment OtherAssociated with increased rates of spouse or child abuse and increased spread of sexually transmitted diseases Treatment Completely stopping the use of alcohol is the ideal goal of treatment. This is called abstinence. A strong social network and family carry are important in achieving this. Completely stopping and averting alcohol is difficult for many people with alcoholism. There will be times when it is difficult. You should aim to avoid drinking for as long as possible. Some people who abuse alcohol may be able to simply reduce the amount they drink. This is called drinking in moderation. If this method doe s not work, you should try to quit drinking completely. DECIDING TO QUIT Many people with alcohol problems do not recognize when their drinking gets out of hand. The ideal approach to treatment is to help the person realize how much their alcohol use is harming their life and those around them.Studies find that more people with alcohol problems opt for treatment when their family members or employers are honest with them about their concerns, and try to help them see that drinking is preventing them from reaching their goals. Withdrawal from alcohol is top hat done in a controlled, supervised setting. Complications from withdrawal can be life threatening. For more information, see Alcohol withdrawal Your health care provider should order blood and urine tests to check for health problems that are common in people who abuse alcohol. LONG-TERM SUPPORTAlcohol recovery or attendant architectural plans can help you stop drinking completely. These programs usually offer Counseling and therapy to discuss alcoholism and its effects and how to control your thoughts and behaviors Mental health have got Medical care You may be treated in a special recovery center (inpatient), or you may attend a program while you live at home (outpatient). Medications are sometimes prescribed to prevent you from drinking again. Acamprosate is a drug that has been shown to lower relapse rates in those who are alcohol dependent.Disulfiram (Antabuse) produces very unpleasant side effects if you drink even a small amount of alcohol within 2 weeks after taking the drug. Naltrexone (Vivitrol) decreases alcohol cravings. It is available in an injectable form. You cannot take these medications if you are pregnant or have certain medical conditions. The medications are practically used with long-term treatment with counseling or support pigeonholings. Depression or other mood or anxiety disorders may be discover after you stop drinking. These should be promptly treated. It is important tha t the patient has a living situation that supports their need to avoid alcohol. Some programs offer housing options for people with alcoholism or alcohol abuse. Support Groups Support groups are available to help people who are dealing with alcoholism. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS (AA) Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a self-help group of recovering alcoholics that offers emotional support and specific steps for people recovering from alcohol dependence. The program is commonly called a 12-step approach. There are local chapters passim the United States. AA offers help 24 hours a day and teaches that it is possible to participate in social functions without drinking.AL-ANON Family members of a person with an alcohol abuse problem often need counseling. Al-Anon is a support group for partners and others who are affected by someone elses alcoholism. Alateen provides support for teenage children of people with alcoholism. OTHER SUPPORT GROUPS Several other support groups are available. SMART recov ery teaches you have to change your thoughts and behaviors to help people with alcoholism recover. LifeRing recovery and SOS are two nonreligious programs that offer support for people with alcohol abuse.Women for Sobriety is a self-help group just for women. Moderation Management is a program for those who want to reduce how much they drink. It recommends abstinence for people who cannot do this. Expectations (prognosis) How well a person with alcoholism or alcohol abuse does depends on whether or not they can stop drinking. Alcoholism is a major social, economic, and public health problem. Problem drinking can affect every part of a persons life. If you have an alcohol problem, abstinence can help ameliorate your mental and physical health and possibly, your relationships.Treatment programs can help you quit. However, drinking again after treatment is common. It is important to have a good support system. Relationship Between Clothing and Identity

Relationship Between array and IdentityMaterial conclusion refers to the corporal, physical target constructed by pieces. Ferguson (1977) describes material culture as all of the things people leave behind . All of the things people make from the physical world farm tools, ceramics, houses, furniture, toys, buttons, roadstead and cities (Ferguson, 1977). Material culture refers to objects that are utilize, lived in, displayed and experienced. Human beings interact with material culture as a normal incision of their daily lives. Because of this interaction, material culture and human living is strongly influenced by each other, and through studying material culture gives us crucial clues about the way humans live and get hold of lived in the past. Schlereth (1982) outlines the richness of the study of material culture, arguing that through material culture we seat learn about the belief systems the values, ideas, attitudes, and assumptions of a particular fraternity of Society, unremarkably across time (Schlereth, 1982). Schlereth continues to state that a study is based upon the obvious idea that the existence of a man-made object is concrete turn out of the presence of a human mind operating at the time of production. The common state ment underlying material culture research is that objects made or modified by humans, consciously or unconsciously, directly or indirectly, reflect the belief patters of individuals who made, commissioned, purchased, or used them, and, by extension, the belief patterns of the monumentalr society of which they are a part (Schlereth, 1982). By studying culture as something created and lived through objects, we learn to generalize the kind structures, human action, emotion and meaning, and through this process we follow together the crucial link between social and economic factors with the individual actor. This is where we can introduce Marxism mode of production, if we consider material culture in footing of consumer societies we will be able to reproduce and challenge social structures. However, according to Marx and Engels (1965, p32) in The German IdeologyThis mode of production must not be considered simply as being the reproduction of physical existence of individuals. Rather it is a definite form of activity of these individuals, a definite form of expressing their life, a definite mode of life on their part (Sahlins, 1976).Marx mode of production worked in the following way people produce commodities and sell them so that they can buy other commodities to satisfy their own needs and wants. For Marx, production is something much than practical logic of material effectiveness, it is a cultural intention.Take for theoretical account, if you look or so your home, objects are everywhere cups/mugs, computers, clothing. You know what most of these are because they are part of you familiar environment, if you have grown up with these objects they have been a part of your life. this i nstant if a person lived in a different part of the world and from a different century, they would have a difficult time trying to understand our material culture. Each object has a story to tell, a story which has been shaped by human used. If material objects are been analyzed, basic facts will be recorded, a verbal description which might include measurements, material, any distinguishing features, take note of everything which will determine a clearer picture about the object. This key breeding will provide material about the technology used, the economy, or social relations within the given society and how they have changed or progressed over time. costume and in particular designer outfits can mask a persons real persona. The clothing can be worn to impress and make the wearer feel more confident, however this can also be taken to the extreme in that if a persons self worth and morale is low clothes are used to state falsely about the importance of the person. wearing certai n clothing may make a person feel empowered by reparation their self perception, they can assist in forming or negating interpersonal and chemical group attachments, mediating the formation of self-identity and esteem and integrating and differentiating social groups classes or tribes (Woodward, 2007, p4 ).Alison Lurie states that in her Language of clothe that clothes introduce individuals subconsciously before they even say a word (Lurie A. , 1992). Clothes are expressions of identity, one of the permanent ways we signal to the social world who and what we are (Twigg, 2007). It is also an expression and fulfilment of human needs needs of the body and mind. These expressions function within a cultural context with the utilisation of passing on distinctive meanings to social forms. Clothes have been used to identify our links, such as what school we attend, what job we have or what group we are a part of. Schools use logicals to identify their students, although uniforms can be a really useful if the students are out on day trips, the uniform will be easily recognisable to pick out students, these students then represent the school. Occupations have informed the public of their identity and job titles throught the use of clothing, for example gardai, nurses, surgeon, security guards, fire fighters the list is endless when you really think about it.In most cultures gender differentiation of clothing is considered appropriate for both men and women. There are many features that differentiate the gender of clothing. The masculine fabric is relatively caorse and stiff, usually heavier whereas feminine fabric is soft and fine. Masculine colours usually tend to be darker, and feminine coloured clothing is usually light or pastel. The cut in mens clothing is square with corners and angles, and womens dress lines emphasize the flow, the loop and the actual style of the dress. These elements convey social meaning (Sahlins, 1976). The sturctural lines in the cut o r patterns of clothing make up analogous class of meaningful contrasts (Sahlins, 1976). The importance seems to be related with three characteristics of a line direction, form and round of golf. Direction refers to direction in relation to the ground. Form refers to its properties as curved or straight. And rhythm refers to the periodicity of the curve or angle (Sahlins, 1976).In western societies, womens clothing usually consists of skirts, dresses and high heels, while a tie is usually seen as mens clothing. Trousers/jeans were seen as mens clothing but nowadays they are worn by both male and female. Female clothing usually tends to be more attractive in comparison to male clothing.Clothing also identifies religious groups. In some cultures, laws regulate what men and women are required to wear. A man wearing a headgear called yarmulke/kippah is most likely to be Jewish, and a woman wearing a hijab is most likely to be Muslim. The yarmulke is for a Jew to say publicly that he re spects perfection and that God is above human kind. According to the Talmud (Jewish Religious Commentary), wearing the kippah reminds Jews that there is a higher authority, and it reminds us that God is always watching (Silvestri, 2010). A Muslim woman who wears a hijab not only publicly announces her religious identity, but when her face is covered, men cannot judge her by her appearance, they are able to evaluate her by her personality, character, and morals (Hussein). If we look at the catholic culture in Ireland, a man wearing in a black robe or outfit and a roman collar is identified as a priest and is given the title father in the Roman Catholic churches. In Islamic culture, men pride themselves in wearing turbans because of its significant spiritual symbolism of their cultural faith. Turbans are still worn today by Islamic men as a way of distinguishing themselves, strengthening social ties and giving a sense of group identity. They are considered important in prayer, where the rewards are said to be twenty-five times greater when the headdress is worn. However in saying all of this the turban also has a practical function, it protects the mens head from the heat and dust in Arab countries (Bennett, 2010). Again, we see clothing as the subconscious communicator that announces ones religious identity publicly.According to Sahlins (1976), American clothing amounts to a very complex scheme of cultural categories and the relations between them. The scheme operates a set of rules for declining and combining classes of the clothing which formulate the cultural categories. Each face consists of a range of meaningful variation, some will be present and others will be absent (Sahlins, 1976. p179). The outfit as a whole makes a argument, developed out of the particular arrangement of garment parts and by contrasting to other outfits (Sahlins, 1976. P 179). Strictly speaking, clothes is not a part of your body, however, since your body is largely covered in it , your clothing will affect the way you come across. Seeing as your clothing is such a large factor, on the message your giving off, your appearence is important and will effect the view others have on you. The clothes you are wearing make a statement about your identity and your social status, the colour and style of clothes worn tell others about how you are feeling in the world. Clothes have the dexterity to inform publicly of ones identity, mood, generation, religion, and culture. It is a language that is constantly in communication with people introduced or not introduced. Although the language of clothes speaks, it may not be completely accurate, but it gives one an idea of an individuals identity and personality. The language of clothes is used daily and can be seen every day in the home, at church, out shopping and within the political world. It is a language that everyone uses as an ice-breaker to open up conversation or to have common ground and value. Clothing as a commu nicator can be seen worldwide and is used universally. Taking all of the above into consideration one can say that material culture can be compared to a language.

Examining Problems Of Urbanization

Examining Problems Of UrbanizationIn this essay, fusss of urbanization is examined what extend advise be met by constitution of sustainable development. This essay includes the definition of urbanization and its problems. These problems ar pollution problems, traffic congestion, housing and effects of urbanization on society. This essay represents possible solutions for these problems by policy of sustainable development. Also, it contains the explanation of sustainable development. The meaning of urbanization whoremonger be basically described as the expansion of cities by encompassing the rural areas in it. Urbanization is not just physically growth. Also, it contains population and complaisant and economic structure. The urban growth generally has been caused by immigrations. Most of these immigrations are done from rural areas to urban areas. sometimes it can be seen from countries to countries. The reasons of migration can be arranged as economic, technologic and sociolog ical. The urbanization has positive sides as well as electro disallow. The major advantage of urbanization is economic development. The cities supply much facilities to its citizens with huge mensuration of technological equipments. On the other hand, negative sides follow the technological and economical development. All forms of pollution increase together with growth of population. Traffic congestion in addition starts to seen in the developed countries. Housing problems accrue due to population access from rural areas to urban areas. The whole of society is affected by urbanization. All of these negative sides can be arranged as the problems of urbanization. The problems of urbanization guide to be addressed. In this developing world, nobody can stop the growth of population. However, if urban areas could be developed with a good method like sustainability, the problems of urbanization would be work out. Sustainability means the ability of sustain something. In other words, think of the future and gather in a plan. The aim of it is prevent some problems which will be faced in the future. If the cities are developed regarding to policy of sustainable development, the problems of urbanization can be met.In the last centuries, the urbanization had been got an uncontrolled phase. The huge counts of people migrate to cities from rural areas. There are several causes of it. The major causes of urbanization can be arranged as economic, technologic, politic and psycho-sociological. deal, who have been living in the rural areas, tend to migrate to cities because of economic factors. Specially, in the developed countries, there is vast amount of difference between peasants income and civics income. So, the people who have been living in the rural areas immigrate to cities to increase their incomes. Besides, people immigrate to live more comfortable and for education.Firstly, population problem arises in urbanization. The balance of the population between rura l areas and cities starts to grow up. While the cities are expanding, the farmland starts to destroy. In the rural areas, feeling is more difficult than the life, in the cities. Transportation, communication, technological needs are always difficult to benefit in the rural areas. Therefore, people spread towards cities. All types of pollution can be seen good in the urbanization. Air pollution, water pollution, dissension pollution, light pollution and solid product waste are the main pollutions which are increased parallel to urbanization. Because of the population growth, the air quality decreases in the urban areas. The trucks, cars, factories always exhaust a huge amount of carbon dioxide in a sidereal day to the air. The number of truck, car, and factory are raised parallel to people population. As population growth in cities, the demand of clean water increase. Sometimes the local authority cannot supply enough clean water to citizen due to high population. So, the water po llution occurs in the urban areas. The other pollution is echo pollution. In our daily life everybody use their cars, especially in the cities, car noise is the simplest example for noise pollution. The noise could be created by cars, people, factories, construction sites. Because of screaky environment, people have been less fertile and uncreative in their professional life. Again, all of them are connected with population growth. Light pollution causes to loss of electricity energy as well as environmental pollution. This also creates a problem for the future. By using more energy to use lights, the sources for electricity go down. This is the main problem of urbanization, unsustainable development. In the developing countries, solid product waste is another problem in the recent years. High population always need more supply. Sanitation should be always kept on high for earth health. Whole pollutions act a very important role in human life. Pollution creates different type of disasters. tally to P.S. Brandon, P.L. Lombardi V. Bentivegna (1997, p. 134) China is one of the cities which is faced with environmental degradation, in the world. Environmental degradation c overs both its air and water. To remedy this environmental degradation governments develop some hard laws. Water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and the other environmental degradations can be met by policy of environmental protection law.The other problem which occurs in the cities because of urbanization is traffic congestion. Using a private car has become very common in the world. Everybody prefers to use their cars to simply their life. It seems especially in the urbanization countries. This attitude creates traffic congestion. Besides, with this problem, it causes more energy usage, time loss and makes people nervous. To decrease the traffic congestion, the governments recollect some possible solutions. Public transportation is the most common solution to prevent traffic c ongestion. The developing cities should produce more sustainable products, vehicles, buildings to save more energy for future generations. According to S. M. Wheeler and T. Beatley (2004, p.98) to prevent the traffic congestion, traffic calming is the process of slowing down traffic to create safer, conductive to pedestrians, cyclists and residential life. With this alternative solution, the air and noise pollution will be decreased. Also, the fuel consumption will be reduced. The cities will be more sustain by traffic calming method. Energy will be saved by this way. Roads will be used safely. Briefly, this method will be work one of this urbanization problem, traffic congestion. As list of my essay, third problem of the urbanization is housing. Because of large amount of migrants, housing problem has been increasing day to day in cities. The migrants who migrate from rural areas to cities create a problem. These migrants try to find suitable accommodation for them. Unfortunately, due to the low income of migrants, it is impossible to find an accommodation by reasonable price. There are large amount of flats, houses and buildings to live in cities. However, the accommodation price is large as well as amount of accommodation. People start to live unsuitable buildings in cities after migration. The migrants hold old and inconvenient accommodation to survive their life. This creates another problem, which is called visual pollution. Besides, several diseases can easily spread into cities. According to Mark, Gordon, Peter Ron (2007, p. 362) groups of buildings or building stocks is the useful method to over to the management of social housing stock. The governments have some policy to over to the management of social housing stock. If policy of housing always applies, the housing problem can be solved by this policy.Fourthly, suffering of societies can be counted as a problem of urbanization. Urbanization effect on societies is the other problem. Fundamentally, this problem is the result of other problems, pollution, traffic congestion and housing. Because of these problems, peoples welfare goes down. The societies feel bed. This problem can be solved after other problems solutions. As a result of, urbanization is created by people and can be solved again by people. The main reason of urbanization is unbalanced income between peasant and civic. In the other worlds, urbanization is expansion of cities and contraction of farmland. According to Philip M. Hauser Leo F. Schnore (1967, p. 1) the reasons to emergence of cities are the size of total population, the control of natural environment, technological development and developments in social organization. The major triggering factor of developing cities is technology. engineering science should be used correctly. Even if cannot be used correctly or without caring future, it cause some problems such as urbanization. Urbanization has lots of negative sides. In case, urbanization control by p olicy of sustainable development. The brief meaning of sustainable development is deliberate developing. The problems which occur due to urbanization can be solved with caring future. And developing some rules or policies by governments will prevent problems of urbanization. For example, to prevent the environmental pollution that contains air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, visual pollution and solid wastes can be decreased by making lawful to sustainable development. On the other hand, increasing the number of public transportation with reasonable price can raise the demand of using public transportation. Besides, the fuel consumption, noise and air pollution can be solved by this way. Also, traffic congestion can be solved by developing the infrastructure of transportation facilities. For the other problem, housing problem, governments can apply strict rules to prevent housing problems which is occur because of immigrations from rural areas to cities. Movement in an Idealized Dam-break Configuration

Movement in an Idealized Dam-break ConfigurationFor doing the research of the fluid dynamics with the open channel engender to the woods, to derive and understanding different waves equivalences in partial differential coefficient contiguity with conservation form such as the explicit center on convection idea and the explicit upwind convection approximation in different condition. Trying to substitutive the values into the equations to derive the appropriate regularity base on the limited- volume method in the fluid dynamics and using the softw atomic number 18 to calculate the flux and the stability which will depend on the direction of the wave and must be under the distance travel must not exceed the step way condition. The aim is staring to go through the details of the equations, get the instigant new Flux functions which called lax Wendorff burgers equation intention and Dam break scheme, based on those approximation to estimate the wave direction, wave speed, height , density and whim in the certain and instant beat for the water wave and at different conditions property and combinations. Putting the values to get the approximate results with those two methods and analyse with each other. Plot the appropriate graphs.AbstractThe purpose of this study is to model the flow movement in an idealized dam-break configuration. One-dimensional motion of a school flow over a rigid inclined bed is considered. The resulting shallow water equations be solved by finite volumes using the Lax-Wendroff schemes. At commencement exercise, the analogue model is considered in the development process. With conservative finite volume method, splitting is applied to manage the combination of hyperbolic term and source term of the shallow water equation and indeed to promote 1D. The simulations are validated by the comparison with flume experiments. Unsteady dam-break flow movement is found to be somewhat well captured by the model. The proposed concept could be further developed to the numeric calculation of non-Newtonian fluid or multilayers fluid flow. All the calculations, data and graphs represent are all through MATLAB programming with an individual code and all the units and symbols were labeled in the code.A. Units and constant for the approximationsEquations TheoryPartial DifferentialsPartial differential equations are conf dod method to solve as they contain more than one variable and instead are used toDescribe problems involving the parameters in use which can be solved using the variation of schemes. They describe the certain rate of change of variables which are related to each other, in this project, the first convection are the wave equation in conservation form which are to approximate the velocity of the flow in different directions and the flux approximation with changing cartridge holder. Two different methods are considered which are the explicit upwind convection approximation and explicit centered convection app roximation respectively. When dt = 0 and dx = 0,Discretization SchemesExplicit centered convection approximation and explicit upwind convection approximation, these methods include finite volume method which approximating the variables around discrete nodes with dissected into too many small elements that are approximated.Finite-Difference ApproximationFinite-difference approximations are one of the near derivative methods for settlement differential equations. The system can approximate the solution with the necessary boundary and initial conditions imposed, providing an accurate solution for the previous unfathomable equation. They are of particular use in aerodynamics as their time and space dependent nature lends itself to computing shock wave propagation or other energy move out flows.Their approach uses discretization to approximate the differential, by applying a finite power system, of points at which the variables are estimated, with the process continuing as the local p oints govern their approximation values from the adjoining nodes. Iterative approximation in this manner produces an obvious demerit, known as the discretization or truncation error, diverging from the true value. The key to the principle is, same anything, minimizing this error in the system. Monitoring this error then is something of paramount importance and through the implementation of the Taylor series. In addition, there are three critical properties that any approximation of a partial differential should manage, which are consistency, stability and convergence.Forward-Time, Backward-Space SchemeThe form of approximation method is a backward, explicit, hyperbolic system which means that at the succeeding(a) set of results are only calculated from the nodes immediately behind them geometrically, in relation to their pervious counterparts, for examples,When dt = 0 and dx = 0,This also gives the system an inherent advantage as this encourages convergence, through the fact th at the approximation method has a domain of dependence which are include the initial data, shared by the partial differential at t = 0, only apply on the first set of data. Also, further information gathered from the equation itself shows is a first order method and most suitable to simple differential approximations.Lax SchemeThis kind of approximations are most likely the previous is explicit hyperbolic in nature, however, it is a scheme which to demonstrated that all the velocity of the water flow terms are either side of and is first order accurate for u, and also approximate the true statement for x.When dt = 0 and dx = 0,Moreover, the stability of the method has to be considered as the Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy (CFL) condition is a necessary condition for convergence eon solving certain partial differential equations usually hyperbolic numerically by the method of finite differences. It arises in the numerical analysis of explicit time integration schemes, when these are used for the numerical solution. As a consequence, the time step must be less than a certain time in many explicit time-marching computer simulations, other than the simulation will produce incorrect results.Lax-Wendroff SchemeThis scheme is a common numerical method for the solution of hyperbolic partial differential equations like the previous schemes which are based on the finite differences to accurate for both space and time apparently. There are two different cases are liberation to consider and approximate which are the 1st for the linear case, while, where a is a constant which to define the direction of the flow and u is the wave speed, when, the flow is to the right, and to the left when a is negative. As two different approximations have considered, for the centered methodFor the upwind method Or Or And for the Lax-Wendroff in first-orderPredictor,Corrector,For the 2nd case, revolve about methodFor the upwind method Or Or And for the Lax-Wendroff in first-orderPredictor,Co rrector,Calculate for the half grid points and time steps approximation as different predictors first and then recalculate the scheme by the value of half grid points and time steps into same Corrector which putting a two steps approximation rather than a single step to make it more accurate. This is a feature unique for the Lax-Wendroff method. Also, the stability of CFL condition is the same as the previous scheme.Taylor SeriesThe Taylor series is a form of evaluating and representing partial differentials, as an infinite sum of its terms at a single point, in form of series expansion. The use of the series has many applications in engineering, with its main being the approximation of functions through the expansion to the necessary number of terms. Through collating the appropriate number of terms and then truncating the series a valid approximation of the function can be made. The act of truncating the series generates an error, although as the expansion continues the effect of each term dwindles, a characteristic that allows the truncation after a certain term number. The truncation error can also be computed and gives an indication as to the validity and feat of the initial approximation made using the series expansion.B. Dam break schmeThe simplest situations will first be considered, of mass, momentum and energy conservation laws in unprocessed form, so stripped of all energy-diffusing terms, such as bed slope , resistance, change of section.Governing EquationsThe mass entering t element in time dt isWhile the amount leaving isFor the massFor the momentumFor the simplest case, X1Figures and TablesFigure 1Figure 1 shows the relationship of the velocity against the postion of the flow in linear first-order which (f = a*u) , where a is 1, Lax-Wendroff is used for approximation, and it shows a steady flow with a certain time and positions with the input data, there are 50 nodes in total and the grid spacing are 400 as the detla time was 0.0015s, so the g rid spacing should have to take a really large value to maintain the CFL.Figure 2Figure 2 shows the relationship of the velocity against the postion of the flow in non-linear first-order which (f = u2/2), Lax-Wendroff is used for approximation, and it shows a steady flow with a certain time and positions with the input data, there are 50 nodes in total and the grid spacing are 30 as the detla time was 0.0015s, the grid spacing take a really smaller value to maintain the CFL.Figure 3Figure 4Figure 3 Figure 4 shows the relationship amidst the height against the spacing and the momentum against the spacing respectively, dam break scheme is used with base on a Lax-Wendroff approximation and for Figure 3, the running time is 10 seconds which is shorter then Figure 4 and the erudition of the dam wall sets as 0.2m and break at 30m while Figure 4 sets as 0.5m depth and break at 50m. As the results show, the longer running time it takes, the stability and convergence of the approximation comes out. Also, both of the results withdraw the boundary which take an error while plot graph. So, a function for boundary condition has to be considered as well. ReferencesGuymon, Gary L. Essay --

Fantasia Goodwin is junior at the University of Syracuse and a starter for the varsity womens basketball team. Fantasia finds herself in a mentally ill situation upon learning she is pregnant during the 2007 basketball conciliate. Faced with many uncertainties, Fantasia encounters what is undoubtedly one of the biggest ethical dilemmas she has faced thus far in her life. There are many layers to her dilemma and they all need to be carefully taken into consideration. In order to help Fantasia make an informed decision she must basic identify all of the ethical issues surrounding her pregnancy and the cause-effect relationship they will certainly fork up. First and foremost if she remains silent and continues to play through the season she faces the consequences of potentially damaging her unborn baby to the extent of birth defects, injuring herself and/or miscarrying. On a tertiary level, Fantasia is also faced with the consequences that disclosing her pregnancy could bring, such as, losing her light, losing her eligibility, losing her linear perspective on the team and/or being pressured to abort the baby. Stakeholders in which Fantasia must take into consideration before making an informed decision include Fantasia. As the m opposite of the baby she is the primary stakeholder in this situation. The decision she makes could potentially have profound effects on the outcome of her future. The Syracuse department of athletics, teammates, the University of Syracuse and other Universities team members should be taken into consideration. Finally, regardless whether or not the father is involved in the decision making process, consideration of his thoughts and feelings must be prone proper attention in this matter. Before a final decision ... ...thletes that became pregnant. Syracuse University at the time did not have guidelines nor did they have their female athletes grade any formal documentation to the effect of mandatory disclosure or a prom issory note indicating scholarship funding would be pulled as a result of pregnancy. However, also in 2007 a track and field star from Clemson University set the stage for many Universities to address and add provisions as it pertained to pregnancy. Clemson University did have their female athletes sign promissory notes indicating funding and eligibility would be suspended as a result of pregnancy. Upon learning that their track and field star was pregnant her scholarship funding ended immediately as did her place on the team. Interestingly enough, there are absolutely no guidelines for male athletes that are fathers and this disparity has save to be addressed.

Enviromental Influence in Huckleberry Finn :: essays research papers

The environment that someone is in can greatly affect his or her coiffeions, decisions, and way of life. In the novel, The Adventures of huckabackleberry Finn, by post Twain, huck is faced with many tough decisions. Huck is a young, white boy, raised in the south. His begin is a drunk, and doesnt teach Huck corking morals. As we continue in the book, Huck is faced with the decision, to free a runaway slave, or not. Growing up in the south, he was taught that whites were always break than Negros. But Huck goes against his teachings and continues to help Jim escape to freedom.Hucks father was an abusive drunk, so legal custody of Huck was switched over to Widow Douglas, who had a slave named Jim. Living with Mrs. Watson, Huck was taught good morals, values, and manners and was forced to go to school. However, he did not live there very long. Hucks father went on a drunken rampage and kidnapped Huck from Mrs. Watson, and locked him up in his cabin. However, Huck enjoyed living wit h his father for a while, because he didnt have to act civilized. Huck eventually figures a way out of the cabin, so he fakes his death so his father doesnt think he ran away, and then escapes. Huck runs away to Jackson Island, because it is remote and no one lives there. Wandering around the island, Huck runs into Jim, who then explains to him that he ran away because he thought Huck was dead. Jim and Huck converse for a while, till Jim explains that he wants to buy his family back from slavery. Huck then agrees to help Jim escape to freedom by getting to Cairo and conclusion the Ohio River. The time period and location that Huck was living in was very prejudice toward black people. Huck and Jim can only travel down the disseminated multiple sclerosis River by raft at night, because Huck fears that people living along the river will think that Jim is a runaway slave and attempt to capture him and warp him into authorities. Huck and Jim have to stop every now and then to pick up necessary supplies, (i.e. food, water, tools) and Huck gets many questions from locals, as to what hes doing with a black man. The constant questioning annoys Huck and eventually, he reflects on his decision to free Jim. First he writes to Mrs.

Richard Warren Sears And Sears, Roebuck, & Company :: essays research papers

Richard Warren Sears and Sears, Roebuck, & CompanyRichard Warren Sears was born on December 7, 1863, in Stewartville,Minnesota. He was the son of jam Warren and Eliza A. Sears, both of Englishancestory. His father led anything but a happy life. He had failed in his questfor gold during the California Gold look sharp of 1849 and was a bitter soldier in theCivil War, which he blamed on politicians. He had gather ined a sizable sum of moneyworks as a blacksmith and a wagonmaker, but he lost it all in a stock-farmventure. Richards father gave up soon afterwards, leaving Richard to be thefamily breadwinner at the age of 16.Richard worked in the general offices of the Minneapolis and St. LouisRail personal manner in Minneapolis to support his family. He then decided to move RedwoodFalls, Minnesota, where he thought that he could earn more money because of thesmall town declineting. There he worked as a station attendant, doing chores for hisboard and sleeping in the loft of the railro ad station. In his spare time, helearned how the mail-order business worked.Richard got his opportunity to get into the mail-order business in 1886when a shipment of watches from a Chicago wholesaler was refused by a townjeweler. Therefore, the shipment sat in the railroad station until Richardcontacted the wholesaler, who offered him the watches for twelve dollars each.He bought the watches and sold them by sending letters to other stationattendants describing the watches and pass them at the discount price offourteen dollars each. He sold those watches and ordered more to sell. To sellthese he advertised in a small way in St. Paul newspapers. He made a largeprofit from this operation. In a few months Richard made such a profit that he abandoned the railroadbusiness entirely and started his own mail-order business under the name of theR.W. Sears Watch Company. In one year he made so much money that he was able tobegin advertising in magazines with a national circulation and move th e businessto Chicago. On March 1, 1887, he set up a shop on Dearborn Street in Chicago with astaff of three people, one to handle bookkeeping and correspondence and cardinalstenographers. Soon after the opening of his new shop, he found a need for awatchmaker to repair watches returned by customers. This watchmaker was a juvenileman by the name of Alvah Curtis Roebuck from Hammond, Indiana.Richard Sears became even more successful by opening up the huge ruralmarket.
